Charitable Programs

In support of its mission, Thunderbird Lake Tahoe offers the Donald W. Reynolds Program for Lake Tahoe History and Culture, a multi-disciplinary array of preservation, education, conservation, and research programs.

Thunderbird Lake Tahoe receives no government support and is funded entirely by gifts from friends like you. We welcome contributions in any amount.

Public Education Tours

Thunderbird Lake Tahoe provides guided public tours all summer long. In these tours, trained volunteer docents summarize our research pertaining to Thunderbird Lodge, Lake Tahoe’s maritime heritage, Lake Tahoe basin land use and conservation, and the legacy of Captain George Whittell, Jr., and much more

Speakers Bureau

Thunderbird Lake Tahoe volunteers are available to speak to your group, school, club, or service organization about a wide range of Lake Tahoe history topics.

Hands-on-History

The school field trip program of Thunderbird Lake Tahoe is available year-round and is aligned with the Nevada Social Studies curriculum standards for 4th and 5th grade level students.

Artists-at-the-Castle

These grants permit a a limited number of aspiring artists access to the Thunderbird Lodge grounds each month for the purpose of creating art with a Thunderbird Lake Tahoe theme. Additionally, artists can sell their art on consignment at the Thunderbird Lake Tahoe Museum Store.

Grants

Thunderbird Lake Tahoe does not make cash grants. However, we make a portion of our facilities and resources available to benefit qualified charities having a compatible mission. Past beneficiaries include the Nevada Cultural Affairs Foundation, Boys and Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe, Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation, U.C. Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Tahoe Maritime Museum, and more.
