Embark on a captivating journey with our docent-guided private tours, unveiling the mystique and enduring legacy of George Whittell Jr., the enigmatic tycoon renowned for acquiring and safeguarding nearly 45,000 acres of Lake Tahoe’s east shore. Traverse through time as you explore the storied Lighthouse Room, the historic Old Lodge, the servants’ quarters complete with its original kitchen, and venture through the 600-foot underground tunnel leading to the expansive boathouse.
Our private group tours are thoughtfully curated for intimate gatherings of from 2 to 40 guests, offering unparalleled vistas of the magnificent lake, picturesque gardens, serene lagoons, cascading waterfalls, ornate fountains, and the majestic nearby mountain ranges. Immerse yourself in the enchantment of Thunderbird Lodge—in its rich history, exquisite architecture, and the captivating tales of Lake Tahoe’s gilded age.
Based on availability, private group tours are offered on Wednesdays and Thursdays from May through October; and Tuesdays through Saturdays from November through April. Tours include a chef’s selection of house wine, beer, cured meats, and artisan cheeses to enhance your experience.
