School Tours and Program Experiences

Hands-on-History School Tours

Thunderbird Lodge and the George Whittell Estate is open for school tours in the spring and fall: perfect times to explore the natural surroundings. Our volunteer team of docents will greet your group and tour your students around the estate. The hands-on experiences they share will be remembered by all who visit this unique location.

We invite Nevada and California Public School teachers to develop their own curriculum using the Whittell Estate as a field laboratory. There are opportunities to teach history, marine science in a lakeside environment, botany, conservation and–Captain Whittell’s own personal favorite–the understanding and love of the native wildlife inhabiting the East Shore’s forests and waterfront.
