Private and Group Tours

Estate and Upgraded Wine and Cheese Tours

Docent-guided tours reveal the mystery and legacy of George Whittell Jr., the enigmatic tycoon who purchased and protected nearly 45,000 acres of Lake Tahoe’s east shore. You’ll discover the history of the Lighthouse Room, Old Lodge, servants’ quarters with original kitchen, and the 600-foot underground tunnel leading to the cavernous boathouse.

Private and group tours are limited to 20 guests and offer breathtaking views of our majestic lake, elegant gardens, lagoons, waterfalls, fountains, and the nearby mountain ranges. Discover the magic of Thunderbird Lodge—the history, the architecture, and stories of Lake Tahoe’s gilded age.

Subject to availability, 90-minute private and group tours are offered May – October on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and November – April on Tuesday through Saturday. November – April tours include wine, beer, and a selection of cured meats and artisan cheeses.
