Thunderbird Lake Tahoe is funded entirely by charitable gifts from friends like you. We welcome contributions in any amount.
A permanent $20-million Preservation Fund (endowment) is needed to save Thunderbird Lodge and Yacht for future generations. Launched in 2009 with a $5-million grant from the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, the Preservation Fund depends on your legacy gifts of cash, IRA distributions, stocks and securities, family foundation grants, donor-advised funds, planned gifts, and bequests.
The Thunderbird Lake Tahoe Castle Club recognizes individuals, families, and foundations making legacy gifts of $100,000 or more to the Preservation Fund.
Thunderbird Lake Tahoe collects and preserves Whittell family artifacts that were once present at Lake Tahoe’s Thunderbird Lodge or the Whittell Family Estate in Woodside, California.
Additionally, the Thunderbird Lake Tahoe archives are a repository for documents and memorabilia from Lake Tahoe, the Sierra Nevada, San Francisco Bay Area, and Nevada. We welcome your gifts of early photographs, films, paper documents, and collectibles.
Thunderbird Lake Tahoe needs contributions of professional services.
Specifically, we require stone masonry, furniture restoration, carpentry, iron work, pavement sealing and top coating, tree trimming, gardening and landscaping, and so much more.
Thunderbird Lake Tahoe welcomes corporate sponsorships of cash, products and services.
In gratitude, we can tailor exclusive experiences for corporate sponsors and their clients including receptions, dinners, yacht cruises, and special events.
Thanks to a provision of the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010, you can enjoy tax savings by making a charitable gift directly from your Individual Retirement Account (IRA) distribution to Thunderbird Lake Tahoe.

When you gift appreciated securities to Thunderbird Lake Tahoe, you may receive an immediate tax deduction with possible savings on capital gains taxes. Your gift of stocks, bonds, or mutual funds can also be used to fund a charitable gift annuity. You can make a gift of appreciated securities to Thunderbird Lake Tahoe while diversifying your portfolio and/or securing a stream of income.

Planned gifts and bequests allow you to make a meaningful gift to Thunderbird Lake Tahoe without jeopardizing your family's security. A bequest can be cash or specific property and can be a percentage share of your estate or a specific dollar value. Your bequest can be designated for general purposes, the permanent Preservation Fund, or a restricted to a specific Thunderbird Lake Tahoe program or project.
Although you are not obligated to notify Thunderbird Lake Tahoe of your intended gift, doing so will allow us to appropriately thank you for your gift and keep you updated about our charitable works.
The following is an example of basic bequest language that can be included in your will or trust:Example: I give DOLLAR AMOUNT or PERCENTAGE OF MY ESTATE to the Thunderbird Lodge Preservation Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation organized and existing under the laws of the State of Nevada with the business address of P.O. Box 6812, Incline Village, NV 89450 for its charitable purposes.
